The personnel planning of the Board of Directors will continue next year. Jassy explained to employees in a note posted on his website on Thursday (local time) that this meant more layoffs.
It was undoubtedly the most difficult decision during his one-and-a-half-year tenure as CEO of Amazon.
Jassy did not provide any details on the exact extent of the layoffs. According to consistent reports, the group began laying off about 10,000 people this week. Amazon recently had approximately 1.5 million employees worldwide, most of them working in delivery and warehousing infrastructure.
The latest layoffs primarily affect the device division, which has suffered losses for the Echo smart speakers and the Alexa language assistant program. Other tech companies, such as Twitter and Facebook parent company Meta, have also recently laid off massively.
