Asking for rent in Switzerland continues to rise in October

Notably, rents requested rose 0.2 percent in October, with the new index value up 0.2 points to 119.1 points, as Swiss Marketplace Group announced on Monday. The rent demand index is collected by the real estate market Homegate in cooperation with the Zürcher Kantonalbank.

Compared to last year, rents increased by 2.8 percent throughout Switzerland, least in Freiburg and most in Graubünden.

According to the statement, the monthly situation somewhat normalized in October. While the rents announced in September were still rising in all cantons, various cantons saw ups and downs in October.

Rents increased in the 16 cantons, especially in Uri, Lucerne and Schaffhausen. On the other hand, they fell most clearly in Zug, Nidwalden and both Appenzells.

Looking at the cities, in October Lucerne, Zurich or Bern should have paid more for an apartment, while in Lausanne, Lugano and Basel prices were slightly cheaper.

The Homegate rent index measures the monthly, quality-adjusted rent change for new and re-rented apartments based on current market offers.
