Almost every second Swiss suffers from flight embarrassment

The Swiss want to go on holiday abroad again. And the plane is a popular means of transportation for a quick escape from everyday life. Market research institute Yougov surveyed 1,000 people in Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain and the Netherlands on behalf of British low-cost carrier Easyjet.

Nearly one in four Swiss citizens stated that they have completed five or more European flights in the past five years. As “CH Media” reported on Saturday, this puts Switzerland first among the countries surveyed.

At the same time, the Swiss are aware that they harm the environment by flying. Because in no other country was the so-called flight shame greater than this. More than 40 percent feel guilty about the negative effects of their own flights.

More expensive tickets for green flights

Fridays For Future or environmental activist Greta Thunberg (19) is definitely influencing the debate. Almost one in two respondents from Switzerland are willing to pay about 10 percent more for greener airline tickets if the flight produces no emissions. On the other hand, 28 percent of people were not at all willing to buy a more expensive boarding pass.

However, it is currently possible to fly without pollutants and without guilt, especially in theory.

The Swiss recently announced that they want to fly partly on solar kerosene starting next year. However, ecological transformation will take years. For example, Switzerland has set a target of providing 11 percent of its kerosene needs from renewable sources by 2030.

Airfare tax is not popular

Airfare tax to comply with climate goals is always an issue on the political scene. Easyjet also wanted to get an opinion on this tax. A third of the Swiss surveyed fundamentally reject a ticket tax in this country. 19 percent think that passengers should pay taxes according to the flight distance. (joyful)
