According to its own statements, the retailer has so far rated more than 2000 self-branded products on its webshop, dubbed “Eco-Scores”. The company plans to print this note on the packaging of the first products in the near future.
The rating is on a scale from A+ for the lowest environmental impact to E- for the greatest environmental impact. The French-Swiss company Beelong calculated the score. According to Coop, the rating is based on the latest scientific data.
The score takes into account factors such as CO2 footprint, water consumption and land use. Labels, origin of ingredients and shipping also affect the result. All products are rated on the same scale regardless of their category.
Migros introduced a similar label for its own branded products with “M-Check” last year.
