It will be a hot day of industrial action in the canton of Zurich! A strike announced by construction workers started in Zurich in the morning. The action is part of a nationwide wave of protests as part of the renegotiation of the state framework agreement (LMV).
“Construction sites have been standing all over the canton since 6 am,” the Unia union said on Friday morning. Thus, construction workers defended themselves against exaggerated demands from craftsmen and increasing pressure on construction sites.
Big show at 11:30
According to the announcement, the unions Unia and Syna are calling for a demonstration at the headquarters of the builders association in Zurich. The march is scheduled to begin at 11.30 am.
Already this week there have been protests in western Switzerland involving thousands of construction workers. The background to the mobilization of the construction industry is the renewal of the LMV, which will expire at the end of the year. Despite six rounds of negotiations, the social partners still have not come to an agreement. A failure results in a no-contract state.
Violation of the peace obligation
The Builders’ Association believes that the strike violated the peace obligation as it took place at a time when the seventh round of negotiations between the social partners was underway. (pbe/SDA)
