Million-dollar deal confirmed by Porsche

The company pays car owners at least $80 million to settle the lawsuit. The allegations included potential fuel economy and emissions discrepancies.

The luxury car manufacturer belonging to the Volkswagen Group was first targeted by US plaintiff lawyers in 2020 due to media reports about irregularities in the emission values of gasoline engines. One impetus was major law firm Lieff Cabraser, who had already played a key role in the VW “Dieselgate” scandal.

After class action lawsuits in the US initially focused on possible exhaust gas manipulations, the deal, which is now settled, is ultimately primarily about allegedly misleading information about fuel consumption.

In a statement regarding the settlement with the US plaintiffs in June, Porsche emphasized that it did not accept the allegations. “The deal serves to end the problem,” the company said. Comparison only applies to vehicles sold in the United States.

In Germany, the Federal Motor Transport Authority started operations in 2021. According to court documents, there are approximately 500,000 Porsche cars built between 2005 and 2020 in the US. Owners are required to receive compensation of up to $1,110 per car.
