Migros is Switzerland’s largest private employer with over 2.3 million members and nearly 100,000 employees. Millions of Migros owners are organized into ten regional cooperatives. Their bosses, called regional princes, are super powerful within the Migros Group. Migros boss Fabrice Zumbrunnen (52) announced his resignation because they absolutely did not want to do what he wanted. Nine regional princes and one princess are deeply rooted in the regions. The majority of their cooperatives will have fewer employees in 2021 than in the previous year, with only two sales gains recorded. All cooperatives run their own ballots, have their own administration, cooperative council and management – a super complex structure unique in Switzerland.

New business models with potential for the whole of Switzerland continue to emerge from its kitchen, for example Goodee (digital coupons), FoodNow (meal deliveries), live video advice at SportXX, Micasa and Meelectronics, MyMigros (local delivery service).
