Singles’ Day heralds November’s discount month

Switzerland is paying particular attention to its wallet this year. With high inflation, rising fringe costs and health insurance premiums, households are controlling where bargains can be found.

November comes just in time. Three major shopping events are approaching – all promising promotions and discounts. Single’s Day kicks off on November 11. Then comes Black Friday on November 25 and Cyber ​​Monday on November 28.

What is surprising is that Black Friday is losing its importance despite rising prices. Says Julian Zrotz of Blackfridaydeals.ch. Sales of consumer purchases on Black Friday fell to CHF 470 million, down from CHF 500 million the previous year, according to November’s annual calculations for the bargain month.

If you just look at the online posting, the turnover should be 110 million francs. This corresponds to a decrease of 5 million in sales compared to the previous year. The average shopping cart of a consumer is 225 francs for online purchases on Black Friday.

Black Friday down, Singles’ Day up

Zrotz: “Rising prices make discounts even more important, but can still lead to less consumption overall. That’s why consumers should hold back, especially when it comes to instant purchases and products they don’t need.”

According to his assessment, there is a “strong” savings potential, especially in electronic products such as televisions, consoles and mobile phones. “There were also very good deals on cell phone subscriptions, perfumes and erotica last year.”

Singles’ Day is on its way to growth. This shopping day, which originated in China, is the most lucrative day in the world. “Singles Day in Switzerland is still the smallest of the three shopping events,” says Zrotz. However, it is also the fastest growing person. The average shopping cart expected here is 255 francs.

According to Zrotz, the turnover of Swiss online retailers in 2018 was still CHF 37 million, while in 2021 it was already CHF 65 million. It expects a turnover of 70 million Swiss Francs for 2022. Zrotz promises nice discounts on iPhones or Playstation 5, for example.

Cybermonday completes its discount hunt

Cyber ​​Monday is at the end of November. According to bargaining expert Zrotz, online discounts here are particularly attractive on items from jewellery, fashion and lifestyle.

The average shopping cart of a consumer is 150 francs of online shopping.
