This price increase is likely to disturb customers: Migros is smashing the prices of classic paper bags in cash registers. Now they cost 40 cents instead of the previous 30 cents. This corresponds to a massive 33 percent price increase, Radio Argovia reported.
Few are surprised that raw materials are getting more expensive. However, the radio station said the price hike should have caused some customers to frown at the checkout. The price increase, which was already in September, was not widely announced by the cooperative.
Migros spokesperson Marcel Schlatter confirmed the price increase to Blick. Distinguish between large and small paper bags. For both sizes, you need to dig deeper into your pocket. Smaller paper bags now cost 30 cents instead of 20 cents. According to Schlatter, the reasons for the surcharge are “increased energy and paper prices”.
Coop and Lidl adjust prices in June
In early June, Coop and Lidl announced that they would increase their paper bag prices. For years, the price of the sack at Coop was fixed in stone at 30 centimetres. Like Migros, the Basel retailer outperforms the price by 33 percent. If you need a paper bag at the end of your shopping trip, you’ll pay 40 cents for it.
Lidl Switzerland also upset the prices of shopping bags. Customers have to pay 30 cents for a sack instead of the previous 25 cents. “However, we pass on only a small portion of the additional costs to our customers and cover the rest ourselves,” a spokesperson told Blick in June.
