400 flights canceled at Lufthansa subsidiary: Austrian Airlines staff went on strike

Aircraft staff at Austrian Airlines (AUA) went on strike ahead of the Easter weekend following a pay dispute. Due to the campaign, which lasted from Thursday to Friday afternoon, Lufthansa’s subsidiary canceled a total of 400 flights. (archive image)

According to AUA, approximately 50,000 passengers were affected by the industrial dispute. The company offered these customers free rebooking or cancellation.

AUA offered a salary increase of up to 18 percent for staff in the cabin and 28 percent in the cockpit. The union is demanding more to close the pay gap compared to Lufthansa, which it says is 40 percent. Company meetings and warning strikes over the past few weeks have already led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights.

In contrast to the escalating pay dispute at AUA, a pay solution for ground staff was announced at Lufthansa on Wednesday evening. Air passengers need not fear a strike by ground staff at Germany’s largest airline during the Easter holidays.
