Recovered from corona crash: Geneva Airport increases sales and profits in 2023

Sales in the aviation and non-aviation sectors rose almost 16 percent to 489.6 million francs, thanks to increased passenger and traffic volumes, the airport operator said on Tuesday. The share of aviation revenues such as takeoff and landing fees remained unchanged compared to the previous year, remaining just under 59 percent.

The company’s net profit subsequently rose by nearly 40 percent to 88.6 million francs. At the same time, the operating profit margin at the EBITDA level increased by 1.2 points to 38.6 percent.

The airport attributes this to higher fares by airlines and good control of costs. As in previous years, the airport transfers half of its net profits to the Canton of Geneva. Last year, the share to be sold was reduced to 25 percent due to the consequences of the pandemic, while the company was in the red in 2020 and 2021.

The number of passengers was already known. In Geneva, this figure increased by 17 percent last year to 16.5 million. As in Zurich, they were only 8 percent below pre-pandemic values.

Last year, the most important airlines remained easyJet with a 46 percent share of total traffic, followed by Switzerland with a 12 percent share.
