Searches and customer requests lead nowhere at the Habitat Design Swiss furniture store. Customers are waiting for their furniture. However, it is highly doubtful whether they will be delivered or not. The furniture store filed for bankruptcy in Geneva on February 26, the company confirmed to Le Temps. A relevant bankruptcy procedure has been opened. Habitat did not want to say anything more about this.
In France, Habitat was legally dissolved in December. 25 branches with 400 employees were sold. The company has branches in Switzerland in Meyrin (GE) and Dübendorf (ZH). It is currently unclear how many employees in Switzerland are affected.
The company was founded in London in 1964 and at times had branches in nearly a dozen countries. Branches in Germany, France and Spain were forced to declare bankruptcy in 2011 and were ultimately taken over by a French company. Now it is not yet known whether there will be buyers for Swiss businesses.
“Le Temps” reports many customers who have been waiting for their orders to be delivered for months. (smt)
