Generali leaves ZFF: There is a sponsorship problem at the Zurich Film Festival

Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) is losing its sponsors. Following the high-profile departure of Läderach as major partner, insurer Generali is now also withdrawing. The Inside Paradeplatz portal reported this on Tuesday.

Generali confirms to Blick: “ZFF’s sponsorship has been discontinued in order to focus entirely on our core issues of running as well as music and music promotion, such as the Swiss Music Awards.”

UBS and Mercedes-Benz remain the main partners. However, at the beginning of last year, there were still uncertainties about the first one. In fact, ZFF’s main financier was Credit Suisse until it was swallowed by UBS in March 2023. ZFF could only breathe a sigh of relief in December 2023, when UBS announced that it would extend its sponsorship commitment for the next four years until at least June 2028.

Mercedes-Benz also made positive comments, but within a much narrower time frame. “Mercedes-Benz Switzerland is once again the main partner of the Zurich Film Festival,” a spokesperson told Blick. The partnership would go so far that ZFF’s stars would be rolled out onto the famous green carpet with their all-electric fleet.

ZFF remains confident about the loss of its partners to Inside Paradeplatz: “We believe that we will replace Generali because we are currently seeing healthy interest from the partners we are negotiating with. We are also in a very good position in terms of our partners at ZFF.”

As of now, without Läderach and Generali, an important piece is probably missing. This gap must be closed within six months; Will this be possible? Those in charge of the Zurich Film Festival have turned to Blick and have left many questions unanswered so far.

At least: The partners Blick surveyed have so far shown no indecisiveness. Watch brand Breitling is participating for the fourth time. A spokesperson told Blick: “We are very pleased with and value the partnership.” Another long-standing joint partner of ZFF is Küsnacht ZH’s real estate company Mobimo. He says: “At this point we see no reason to question this cooperation.”
