Action has around 2,300 branches across Europe, almost 500 of them in Germany: Will branches in Switzerland be added soon?
Ulrich Rotzingerhead of economy

Dutch is currently spoken in established discount stores and major distributors such as Otto’s, Radical, Tchibo, Lidl. Because Action is getting closer to entering the Swiss market. The low-cost provider established a branch in Basel last autumn for its expansion in Switzerland. The discounter has now started searching for personnel and locations.

German newspaper “Lebensmittelzeitung” understands that Headhunter Michael Page is now responsible for recruiting real estate experts for Action. Interesting: with Alexandre du Pasquier, the Dutch already have a Swiss expert on board. The man of action, who is the former real estate manager of Denner, a subsidiary of Migros, has a lot of knowledge. It may also open the doors of Migros. The orange giant announced its mega renovation plans a few weeks ago. Migros companies such as SportX, Hotelplan and Meelectronics were put up for sale.

The action will concern both specialist personnel and various properties or retail locations. Blick’s request at the company’s headquarters in the Netherlands remained unanswered. The German business magazine speaks of “unexpected opportunities”. It is said that something is not right for the Dutch.

All eyes on Migros

At Action, shoppers will find everything from gifts to towels, home electronics, underwear, tools, pan sets and craft supplies. According to the website, at least 1,500 products in the range are available for “under 1 euro”. There is no food. This situation seems likely to continue in Switzerland in the future. Time is running out for action.

In the face of increasing prices, well-established retailers are expanding their discount limits. “Consumers are increasingly turning to lower priced products,” Nordal Cavadini (49) tells Blick. “International discounters are now taking advantage of the opportunity presented to them in Switzerland,” says the retail expert.

If Migros opens its sales area soon, the Dutch can quickly start opening their first branches in Switzerland.
