Demand for Bosch home appliances is less.

Home appliance manufacturer BSH, a subsidiary of German industrial group Bosch, is planning significant layoffs.

Based on current business volume, BSH plans to cut around 3,500 jobs in the indirect sector globally by the end of 2027, including 1,000 this year, it writes. Indirect space includes, among other things, management; Production is initially unaffected. In Germany alone, 450 jobs were affected.

BSH has approximately 300 employees in Switzerland. However, the Bosch press office does not want to disclose whether Switzerland will also be affected by the discount.

Already several rounds of disassembly

Bosch has raised red flags several times in recent weeks: Up to 3,760 jobs will be eliminated in the fields of automotive materials and power tools. Together with BSH Hausgeräte, it constitutes the consumer goods segment of the group and therefore its second largest business area.

Regulations must be implemented in a socially acceptable manner. According to the information obtained, the Bosch home appliances division, which includes brands such as Bosch, Siemens, Gaggenau and Neff, wants to avoid operational layoffs.

At last count, around 60,000 people worked at BSH worldwide, including around 17,000 in Germany. The division generated more than a fifth of Bosch’s 91.6 billion euros in sales in 2023, according to preliminary business figures. However, this was the only division that recorded a significant decrease in sales last year. Bosch does not expect demand to rebound until 2025.

Just two weeks ago BSH’s rival Miele announced it would cut or transfer 2,700 of its 23,000 jobs. (SDA/rae)
