Customer data exposed on dark web: Leading Swiss staffing company hacked by Russians

Russian hackers attacked Swiss recruitment specialist Das Team. The Black Basta ransomware gang hacked the company’s website and stole over 200 gigabytes of data. This emerges from a post on the leak page on the dark web.

According to Watson’s research, the article also makes accessible sensitive personal data, including medical records and copies of ID cards. The cyber gang claims that they leaked all the seized files.

Victim

Impressed recruiter The team is one of Switzerland’s leading personnel service providers. The Basel-based company confirmed the cyber attack to the news portal: “We are aware that the information published may pose a risk to those affected. “We are in communication with all our employees and customers and provided information accordingly.”

The attack took place in December. Following initial analysis, the team identified the outflow of certain data but deemed it “conditionally critical.” Just yesterday, the recruiter discovered that they had underestimated the extent of stolen data.

Guilty

Black Basta is one of the world’s most dangerous cyber gangs in the ransomware industry. In addition to publishing data, Russian criminals also block access to victim companies’ systems during a cyberattack. A ransom is then required to be released. According to one report, Black Basta has been stealing over $100 million (CHF 88 million) since November 2023.

In May 2023, the cyber gang hacked the Swiss automation company ABB. Employees were no longer able to log into the company’s internal network for several days. The attack delayed projects and affected the internationally operating company’s factories. (wgr)
