Switzerland is the best country for expats to create wealth for themselves and their relatives.
Michael Hotz

Breathtaking mountain landscapes, picturesque towns and villages: Switzerland is so beautiful, that’s why millions of tourists come to us every year. Our Alpine country is also the best place for immigrants to create wealth for themselves and their relatives.

Switzerland ranks at the top of the country rankings recently published by consultancy firm Henley & Partners. Specifically: According to the “Henley Opportunity Index,” our country offers the best opportunities for good education, promising careers and high income for families who move here. The USA ranks second after Switzerland, and Singapore ranks third.

Immigrants benefit from high wages in Switzerland

For the research, the British consultancy firm examined 27 countries and calculated the likelihood of families increasing their assets by moving in the future. This value includes a total of six parameters: wage potential, career opportunities, the possibility of a job at a high management level, high-level education, economic permeability of the population and standard of living. Among all variables, Switzerland reached the highest value at 85 percent.

Our country performs particularly well when it comes to better income-earning opportunities for immigrants, reaching the maximum score of 100 percent. This firstly proves that Switzerland is a high-paying country. Second: Foreigners can also earn good money in Switzerland.

Career prospects for foreigners are also very good (95 percent) with opportunities to obtain a senior position in a local company (94 percent). The second point is also reflected in the management positions of the largest Swiss companies. Approximately two-thirds of the CEOs of the 20 SMI companies are of foreign origin.

Low unemployment, high university standards

Henley & Partners cites Switzerland’s low unemployment as the reason for its top ranking. This is also reflected in the figures published by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco). The unemployment rate was 2.5 percent in January. Last year the average was even lower, at 2 percent.

The British consultancy agency also draws attention to the high level of our universities. The expert magazine “Times Higher Education” lists seven Swiss universities in its ranking of the 250 best universities in the world. ETH is ranked 11th, making it the best university in continental Europe.

The classical values for which Switzerland is known also had a positive impact on the result: stable political and social environment, reliable public service, well-educated employees, low taxes.

“It is important to choose the right country”

The example cited by Henley & Partners shows how foreign families can benefit from moving to Switzerland: An Indian family with a 32 percent chance of earning more income in their home country increases their value to 85 percent by moving to Switzerland.

“Global income differences are driven largely by the country where people live and work,” Henley & Partners Education Director Tess Wilkinson said in a statement. “Choosing the right country is key to securing prosperity across multiple generations.”

This is true for Switzerland more than any other country in the world. It’s good news, but it’s also news that could lead to explosive political debates.
