Luxury watchmakers win: These are Switzerland’s best employers in 2024

How do you convince as an employer? What does it take for a company to have satisfied employees? 250 Swiss companies know the answer: They have all been voted the best employers in Switzerland by their employees. For six years, “Handelszeitung”, “PME” and Statista have been choosing the best of the country.

This year’s winner is Breitling. Commenting on the award, Georges Kern, CEO of the Bernese Jura-based watch brand, says, “commitment to excellence is not just a goal but also a state of mind.”

The watch industry stands out in the rankings of the best employers every year. This year, two more watch brands, Rolex and Audemars Piguet, are among the best.

Consumer goods manufacturers such as Delica, Victorinox and Doubt also like to be in the top ten – the latter having won twice in a row. But this year, a company whose daily bread isn’t luxury watches, fine snacks or loyal travel companions has nearly come out on top: insurance company Mobiliar came in second place.

The path to success with the Yolo principle

Whether it’s a service or a product offered, there’s a generally valid recipe for success for top employers: Human resource management professor Armand Brice Kouadio calls today’s world of work a “Yolo” economy (“you only live once”).

The principle “you only live once” means that employees want to combine the best of work, family and leisure. They also want flexible working models, modern office spaces and family support. A family atmosphere is also welcomed in the office: shared values, respect and tolerance, as well as a diverse mix of employees, lead to a satisfied workforce.

However, a company first places itself among the best employers when its employees become brand ambassadors. Employees feel good when they happily talk about their day’s work over dinner, proudly point to the shelf of their products in the store, or know the company’s history by heart.
