Dubai is one of the most popular travel destinations for Swiss people. Among other things, because it is very easy to get to the Emirati metropolis: from Zurich and Geneva, Emirates and Switzerland take you to Dubai in a few hours and several times a day.

Now things are getting even better for Swiss holiday travelers: From 2 August 2024, Flydubai airline will fly from Euroaiport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg to Dubai four times a week. This makes it the first airline to operate non-stop flights from Basel to the Arab country. Basel Airport confirmed that flights have started.

Cheap Dubai flights offered

Flydubai is Emirates’ sister company, founded in 2008 and targeting increasingly price-conscious customers. It will use the Boeing B737 Max 8, Boeing’s aircraft type affected by the crisis, on each Basel route. The plane has 156 seats in economy class and 10 seats in business class. Flydubai operates from Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport.

A round-trip flight from Basel to Dubai in economy class starts from around 670 francs on the Flydubai website, and in business class from 3,329 francs. All flights operate codeshare with Emirates, providing seamless connections from Dubai to numerous Emirates destinations as promised by the airline.

Millions fly to Dubai

In addition to new flights to Basel, Flydubai will also launch new connections to the Baltic countries, Riga (Latvia), Tallinn (Estonia) and Vilnius (Lithuania).

Dubai isn’t just a popular destination for Swiss people. Last year the emirate welcomed 17 million tourists. This meant almost 20 percent more guests than the previous year and 2.5 percent more guests than the previous record in 2019. 3.3 million of these came from Western Europe. No separate figure was reported for Switzerland.
