An argument broke out over ten shoes.

Swiss sneaker brand On can’t escape negative headlines. The latest accusation is that transparency, which is actually very important for the company, is in a bad state. The origin information on the On online store is incorrect for half of the shoe models reviewed by “K-Tipp”, the consumer magazine reported on Wednesday.

“K-Tipp” compared the information on 22 On shoe models in the online store with the manufacturer’s information in the customs documents for the shoes and found discrepancies in one out of every two shoes. An On spokesperson told the magazine: “Partly missing” information was “due to the rapid growth of the brand”. Additionally, many On products are now produced in various locations.

Criticism of high margins in On

Ten has been criticized regularly since the beginning of the year. Ten’s margins came to light first; this seems particularly high compared to the competition. According to “K-Tipp”, the Swiss brand pays the least money to the shoe manufacturer in Vietnam and demands the most from customers.

Shortly afterwards, the Swiss Enforcement Organization condemned the use of the Swiss cross on shoes. The club threatened to take legal action against On.

Petition calls for more transparency on fees

Campax, which claimed to be “Switzerland’s largest citizens’ movement”, caused further problems. He submitted a petition to On management demanding greater pay equity and transparency in On’s production chain. Shortly after, Swiss sneaker expert Toto Morand and founder of the Pomp It Up store chain continued in an interview with Blick: “All experts in the industry ask themselves how it is possible to get so much money for bad shoes with so little material and technology.” »

On has not yet given exact information about producer fees. But a spokesperson from On told Blick: “Contrary to recent media reports, our main Vietnamese suppliers paid their employees significantly more than the legal minimum last year, on average almost 40 percent more.”

Advert

After all: Starting from July 1, 2024, minimum wages in Vietnam will be increased by 6 percent. Ten would have to do the same. (moon)
