The latest inflation figures are encouraging for the Swiss people. Annual inflation decreased to 1.3 percent in January. In the previous month, this rate was 1.7 percent.

However, price development varies greatly by product category. Some products are still becoming significantly more expensive, others are becoming only moderately expensive, and some products are falling in price, sometimes significantly.

The decline in inflation can also be seen on a monthly basis: Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices increased by 0.4 percent in January. Consumers have to pay 4.4 percent more for sweet drinks and 3.7 percent more for coffee. Hazelnut and dried fruit prices are also increasing similarly. Mineral water is 4.5 percent more expensive.
