Attention real estate hunters! A massive oceanfront estate on Florida’s west coast is for sale. It’s so stupid that potential buyers have to put a record amount of money on the table. The property is on the market for $295 million (CHF 258 million). If the actual sales price is anywhere near that high, it would be the most expensive property the United States has ever seen, as the Wall Street Journal reported.
That title is currently held by a combined penthouse owned by hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin, 55. In 2019, he paid $240 million (CHF 210 million) for his property in Central Park in New York (USA). It is quite possible that soon he will not be considered the owner of the most expensive property in the world.
The new contender for the world record is nine acres of paradise in Naples, Florida. Businessman John Donahoe (1924–2017) is said to have decided during a flight over the undeveloped property in the 1980s that he wanted to build his home here. Today the estate includes three opulent villas, a private marina and a good 500 meters of beach.
The Donahoes built an 11,500-square-foot, six-bedroom home with an indoor pool. A second villa of 5,500 square meters was added in 1990. With five bedrooms and an outdoor swimming pool, this property is also well-equipped. In 2013, they completed the newest building with an area of 5,800 square meters.
Also known as Gordon Pointe, the resort is located in Naples, a tropical Florida resort on the Gulf of Mexico. John Donahoe’s 13 children have now decided to sell the property. (wgr)
