A supplier informed Boeing that two holes in the fuselage of some planes may not have been drilled exactly according to requirements, the planemaker said in a statement on Sunday evening (local time).
At the same time, Stan Deal, president of the passenger aircraft division, emphasized that the “potential problem” did not pose an immediate problem in terms of flight safety and that the 737 aircraft could continue to operate.
Boeing’s quality controls are currently in particular focus after the fuselage of the Alaska Airlines 737-9 Max crashed in flight in early January. The prisoners fled in fear. During inspections, loose fasteners were also found on other aircraft of the variant. Approximately 170 aircraft of the affected version were recently allowed to take off again following inspections.
US aviation authority FAA announced stricter checks at Boeing after the incident, and some airlines want to send their own inspectors to production lines. Boeing boss Dave Calhoun assured that the company would improve its quality control.
Boeing owns the fuselage of the 737 aircraft produced by supplier Spirit Aerosystems, which was once owned by the group. Last year, the delivery of 737 aircraft had to be interrupted due to malfunctions in drilling wells. The problem Spirit caused was in the pressure chamber that covers the back of the aircraft cabin.
