We hit the slopes in February. So what are the conditions? Switzerland Tourism is launching the Snowticker platform in collaboration with winter destinations, aiming to solve the problem of unknown piste conditions in the middle of the ski holiday season.
On the website, it ranges from 4 Vallées in Valais to Alt St. Petersburg in eastern Switzerland. There is a map that brings together webcams from all over Switzerland, up to Johann SG. With a total of 814 cameras, images from the ski areas can be brought to your home in real time. Each winter destination usually has more than one webcam. At Davos GR you can check track conditions from 13 different stations.
Using a search function, the snow counter jumps directly to the relevant ski area. Webcams in neighboring areas can also be selected by panning and dragging the map. Conditions at different winter sports centers can be easily compared.
Of course, even with a snow gauge, it’s difficult to predict exactly what slope conditions will feel like. Even ski pros can rarely assess how wet or gripping the snow is with the naked eye. Still, webcams give an idea of whether there is enough snow in the area.
