Herisau textile company Cilander has announced that it will consider closing three locations in Herisau AR, Flawil SG and Lützelflüh BE in August 2024. The company is struggling with rising costs and falling demand. This could cause 190 employees to lose their jobs.
Despite all efforts, “the company’s continued economic viability is in question,” Cilander wrote in a statement Thursday. Rolf Schmid, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cilander, said that the cessation of production and, as a result, commercial activities at the end of August 2024 seems inevitable.
Various scenarios regarding the continuation of operations were examined. The consultation process was launched on Thursday.
Since 2022, Cilander has been co-producing, among other things, new combat suits for the Swiss Army. In Herisau, the fabric of army ponchos was made waterproof, camouflage clothing was made wear-resistant, and tent fabric was made opaque. (SDA/kae)
