Orange parcels from Temu are filling more and more mailboxes in this country. The Chinese online store has apparently proven itself in Switzerland as well – although the criticisms are great. The company does not take data protection very seriously. The question also arises as to how the online store can offer products so cheaply. Is Temu still spreading?

According to CH Media’s research, a debt collection company called Whaleco Switzerland AG was established in Basel at the beginning of January. Whaleco Technology Limited, the founding company based in Ireland, is responsible for business in German-speaking countries. As Blick found out, Qin Sun from Shanghai was entered in the commercial registry as the responsible person. It also has a stake in PDD Holding, the Chinese company behind Temu.

According to the trade registry, the purpose is: “To provide services in the field of international electronic commerce and related services such as debt collection.” So why does Temu need a debt collection company in this country?

After Twint’s bill arrived

David Morant of consultancy Carpathia suspects Temu may order soon. “Temu has so far distinguished itself by reacting to local conditions, and payment by invoice is still very popular in Switzerland,” Morant told CH Media. You can already order via Twint.

Caparthia talked about keeping an eye on Temu last year. Morant goes further and says: “We assume that Temu will enter the top 10 in Switzerland in 2023 and achieve sales of over 300 million francs.” Temu has already surpassed its rival Aliexpress in terms of the number of packages. The online store quickly gained fame worldwide through social media. The Temu app has only been available in Switzerland since last May.

Blick also tested online stores in China. Some products were really convincing. However, everyone has to decide for themselves whether they want to support a company that is criticized in this way.
