Slightly fewer than originally planned: Sunrise confirms 166 employee layoffs

The number of layoffs has been reduced slightly as part of a consultation process with employee representatives and the Syndicom union. However, the process also showed that layoffs were inevitable. A total of 200 positions will be closed at Sunrise, taking into account natural fluctuations such as internal changes or early retirement.

The majority of layoffs are expected to be announced in the second half of January. Sunrise states that “many management positions and functions that do not have direct customer contact” will be affected by this reduction. However, employees who have direct contact with customers in stores and customer service will not be the focus of the cuts.

There is a social plan for those who are laid off. This has already been developed in 2021 as part of the merger with UPC. For example, job searches of employees affected by layoffs are supported. They also took individual bridging measures through a fund. In the social plan, criteria such as the age and years of service of the employees who leave their jobs are also taken into account.
