After the emergency landing of the Boeing 737 MAX 9 in the USA, the head of the US aircraft manufacturer admitted failures. The first step is to “admit our mistake,” Boeing boss Dave Calhoun said on Tuesday.
He promised “full transparency” regarding the incident. Calhoun said Boeing would work with the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB): “I’m confident in every step they take and that they will come to a conclusion.”
Alaska Airlines’ Boeing 737 MAX 9 took off from Portland in the northwestern United States on Friday. According to passengers, a short time later, part of the cabin wall was blown away. The plane then turned back and made an emergency landing in Portland about 20 minutes later.
According to the NTSB, the cover plate of an unused emergency exit opened and came loose during the flight. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered immediate inspection of approximately 170 aircraft with this configuration.
United Airlines, the airline with the world’s largest fleet of affected aircraft, announced on Monday that it found loose screws during inspections of the Boeing plane. (SDA)
