More than half of the workforce in Switzerland works full-time; making it the most common working time model in this country. According to figures from the Federal Statistics Office, 37 percent of employees worked part-time in 2022. Main reasons: More time for family and leisure.

But there is another way: More flexible working models have become increasingly popular, especially since the corona epidemic. Bern-based waste disposal company Schwendimann AG, for example, reduced weekly working hours from 42 hours to 38 hours at the beginning of 2024, while wages remain the same.

In job sharing, two or more people share a full-time position. Therefore, cooperation is essential. This also exists in the field of management – then we talk about high-level sharing.

More and more employees rely on safe working hours. Working hours are not recorded. Instead, the focus is on agreed upon goals; You can organize your own working hours. It is especially helpful when employees do the work largely independently. Risk: No need to pay for extra work.

The four-day week is also becoming more popular. Instead of five days, you only have to work four days a week for the same pay, even if you have a full-time job. To prevent the days from being too long, weekly working hours were reduced to, for example, 36 hours.
