Thousands of tourists enjoy the festive season in Valais. Operators of hotels and holiday apartments have come to the peak season, rooms in ski areas are rare at this time. A guest at Rosswald VS also had this experience. He booked a room at a hotel that is no longer open.

Hotel Klenenhorn is just a few meters from the cable car. 14 rooms, a restaurant and a beautiful sun terrace. It’s actually the perfect place to stay to enjoy winter for a few days. It’s a shame that the hotel is currently closed. However, according to “Walliser Bote”, guests were able to book accommodation through the booking platform Booking.com.

Tourism organization participated

A guest who made a reservation expressed his dissatisfaction to the regional tourism organization. “Brig Simplon Tourismus AG has been informed that rooms at Hotel Klenenhorn can be booked via Booking.com. Brig Simplon then contacted the hotel owner and booking.com,” Brig Simplon Tourism Director Silvio Burgener explains to “Walliser Boten”.

“Ski areas are ready for guests”

Specifically, it was probably possible to book a room at the hotel for a few days. It’s unclear how many guests were affected. It is also unclear how this point was reached. Burgener believes that only the contractual partners, namely Booking.com and the hotel owner, can clarify this question. It was not possible to make a reservation through the Brig Simplon Tourismus website.

Operators are not aware of any wrongdoing

Curious: The owners of the Klenenhorn Hotel deny the incident. Georg Anthamatten, chairman of the board of directors of real estate company Valais Alpin SA, says: “It must be some kind of fake. We checked whether the hotel could be booked through Booking. This was not possible.”

He became aware of the incident through tourism office employees. The current owners are not contractual partners of the mentioned booking platform. The hotel has been under renovation since it was purchased by the real estate company Visper. The restaurant is being renovated and hotel rooms are being converted into apartments. Due to fire safety, the hotel is strictly not allowed to be opened. “This was never up for debate,” says Anthamatten.

Advert

One thing is clear: holidays in Valais are a failure for the affected guests. “This is a situation that should never happen to any guest,” says Burgener, the tourism director. It is hoped that visitors are staying at another open hotel.
