Actually, it is surprising: despite the increasing costs of rent, electricity and health insurance, Swiss guests’ desire to travel continues unabated. This year’s booking volume for Tui Suisse, one of Switzerland’s largest tour operators, has surpassed even pre-pandemic levels.

Philipp von Czapiewski (39), managing director of Tui Suisse, is now carrying this momentum into the cold season. “Booking levels for the winter season are currently above last year’s level,” he explains.

But travel trends are not much different. During the cold winter months, the Swiss have only one wish above all else: to go out in the sun!

Just like last year, the Canary Islands lead the rankings. Despite the Middle East conflict, Egypt is also at the top. “It was only when the war started that we briefly felt reluctance to book Egypt,” von Czapiewski says. After that, the volume increased further compared to 2019/20 and 2022/23. Thailand holds the top spot for long-haul routes.
