Overall, exports in November amounted to 21.2 billion francs, the Federal Office for Customs and Border Protection (BAZG) announced on Tuesday. While there was a slight decrease of 0.5 percent in seasonally adjusted exports compared to the previous month, there was an increase of 1.8 percent in real terms, that is, when adjusted for price changes. As of the beginning of 2023, exports are now said to be in a slight downward trend.
Estimating imports at 19.2 billion in the reporting month corresponds to a high increase of 7.2 percent in nominal terms and 1.7 percent in real terms. This confirmed the recession recorded since spring 2023, according to the announcement. According to BAZG, in both trading directions the pharmaceutical division overestimated the respective overall result.
Different developments between exports and imports caused the surplus in the trade balance to decline to 2.01 billion francs (3.41 billion VM). This is the lowest level since November 2022. (SDA)
