There are seven days until Christmas Eve. Then the child Jesus brings many more gifts. Or just the post office. But by how long do you have to send the package to Gotti-Meitli or the grandchild so that it reaches under the tree on time?

The shipment is delivered as quickly as possible

You must deliver the package to Swiss Post by December 20th in order for it to arrive on time via B-Post. If you send the package via A Mail, you have until December 21. With Swiss-Express “Moon” it’s even faster: With this option, you just have to deliver your package by 22 December. The same applies to Christmas cards sent via A Mail. But be careful: if you want to send the Christmas card via B-Post, you need to bring it to the post office on December 19th.

You can also send Christmas gifts using the delivery service. But nowhere is it faster than express delivery from the post office.

You can still send packages to DPD until December 22nd. However, the delivery service recommends that all Christmas gifts be ordered no later than December 19 to ensure they reach the recipient on time.

UPS will collect the gifts by December 21st and deliver them just in time for Christmas. From Saturday, December 23rd to Tuesday, December 26th, the delivery service will not be delivering any packages. The same goes for DHL: customers must register their shipments by 17:00 on 21 December in order to arrive in time for Christmas.

The budget allocated to gifts is shrinking

The Swiss plan to spend a total of 282 francs on Christmas gifts this year. This means that they are much more economical than last year, at 343 francs, according to a survey by the consultancy firm EY. Christmas gifts are increasingly ordered online. Online retail dominates with an expected market share of 41 percent, compared to 38 percent last year. Shopping malls and specialty stores each reach a market share of 23 percent.

Therefore, if you still want to order gifts online, you should do it as soon as possible. All packages ordered on Zalando by 23:00 on December 18th will be delivered on time with standard shipping. If you need a spontaneous gift, you can order via express delivery until December 22 at 14:30.

At Digitec-Galaxus, all orders placed by 17:00 on December 21st will arrive under the Christmas tree on time. However, this only applies to products in stock. All products that will definitely arrive at your home before Christmas are marked with a package on the sleigh in the online store.

For other online retailers, it’s worth looking at expected delivery times depending on the product.
