Almost the last major Swiss bank: UBS debit cards finally support Apple Pay!

Nine years after the launch of Apple Pay, do you need to explain? Almost. It’s also very simple: hold your iPhone or Apple Watch at the payment terminal, hear a beep, the purchased item.

Now customers of the only remaining major Swiss bank can also benefit from mobile payments. “Good news, we did it,” UBS Switzerland writes on Twitter, responding to a May article by Blick. At that time, state-run Postfinance announced that it was Apple Pay-Ready.

Previously, only UBS credit card holders could use the Apple payment service. It is now open to all account holders.

Blick explains how this works:

1. Open the Wallet app on iPhone.
2. Add a map (tap the plus sign in the upper right corner).
3. Under Debit card, select the bank.
4. Enter card information (with photo or manually).
5. Bank verification is now working (follow instructions).
6. You will then receive a code via SMS for verification; please enter the code.
7. Complete! Your card is ready for use. You can turn on the wallet by double-clicking the power button.

Only Raiffeisen, the largest bank in the Apple Pay world after Credit Suisse, cantonal banks and Postfinance, is missing.
