Switzerland has problems with e-stickers for its motorways: The new vignette has been available online since Friday – but the portal of the Federal Office for Customs and Border Protection, which published the vignette, is struggling with problems. Enthusiastic drivers caused the portal to overload with a high number of hits.
“The demand for e-vignette is currently very high,” BAZG writes. “This may result in delays in the payment process and the receipt being sent as a PDF.”
In response to Blick’s request, BAZG said that approximately 40,000 vignettes were sold between midnight and lunch. They expected great interest and conducted stress tests on the portal beforehand. However, there are delays in the payment process, which is now handled through an external service provider.
According to BAZG, the information center is currently receiving many calls from affected people. It is recommended that you be a little patient during the payment process. A BAZG spokesperson says the problem usually resolves itself within a few minutes. If you don’t receive confirmation, you can try purchasing again later. There’s no rush: You don’t need a new vignette until February 1.
The 2024 highway vignette is available as an e-vignette for the first time since December 1. With the transition to the electronic model, the vignette is no longer connected to the vehicle, but to the license plate.
If you don’t want to bother with the e-vignette, you can still buy the good old sticker vignette. The price of the two variants is the same: 40 francs for one year.
