Cross-country skiers, partiers and commuters benefit from innovations: Here’s what you need to know about the new SBB tariff

Travelers are creatures of habit. Take the train at the same time every day. But be careful! Starting from December 10, public transport will operate according to the new schedule. There are many changes in vehicles and international passenger transportation this year. Blick shows you the most important improvements in the new timeline.

There are now four direct connections from Geneva via Zurich to Chur and vice versa on weekends. SBB wants to better develop tourist destinations. There is a direct train connecting Zurich to Brig VS from Christmas to Easter, on Ascension Day, Pentecost and on Saturday mornings from June to October. It also stops at Frutigen BE. It takes skiers, hikers and cyclists into the Bernese Oberland and Upper Valais without having to change trains and back again in the afternoon.

Cross-country skiing is trendy! SBB reacts to this. From 13 January to 3 March 2024 there will be two direct connections from Zurich to Einsiedeln SZ, on weekend mornings and back in the afternoon. Intercity IC3 between Zurich and Chur now runs every half hour on weekends all year round. With stops in Sargans and Landquart. Winter sports enthusiasts are happy with this situation!

In the future, passengers from Brig VS to Bern and Basel will arrive earlier. The first IC6 now leaves Upper Valais at 5:16 am; so you can wake up early! At the same time, the last train in the opposite direction will depart one hour later in the evening. And arriving at Brig at 12:41am.

For night owls, there is now an express connection between Olten and Biel on Friday and Saturday nights. With stops in Oensingen SO, Solothurn and Grenchen Süd.

Trips to Munich are popular. In the future, an additional train will operate daily between Zurich and Munich in both directions. This means passengers have two hours of continuous service. There are 13 direct IC connections between Zurich and Stuttgart, with no change in Singen (D).

S11 now runs continuously between Dietikon ZH and Aarau every half hour. Dulliken will now be served by S23 every half hour on weekdays and weekends, providing more direct connections to Langenthal BE and Baden AG.

Due to construction works between Renens and Değers, the TGV between Lausanne and Geneva will be canceled from 29 June to 18 August 2024 – the Olympic Games in Paris will also take place during this period. However: Thanks to direct connections between Lausanne and Geneva, travelers can still reach Paris.

There are also improvements to the sunroom. With the schedule change, the new Minusio stop also comes into operation. It provides service with Tilo S20 and RE80 regional connections. This makes rail service in the Locarno region even more attractive for both leisure travelers and commuters.
