Economic barometer shows: Lack of skilled workers is the biggest concern for Bernese SMEs

As the Bernese SME trade association announced on Friday, 58 percent of respondents said their companies were seriously or very seriously affected by a shortage of skilled workers. This particularly affects companies operating in a growing market.

To address the shortage of skilled workers, companies will promote three ideas: increasing a sense of unity, encouraging family and work harmony, and offering part-time positions for skilled workers.

He noted that financial pressure was the second most common concern. In this context, more than two-thirds of SMEs in Bern stated that their purchasing and production costs had increased due to inflation. Half of SMEs would have to adjust their prices.

It was stated that concerns about the energy crisis ranked third. Compared to last year, this concern has become “much” less important. Most companies don’t expect a shortage in the next six months.

When asked about cybersecurity, 62 percent of SMEs in Bern said it was an important or very important issue for them. However, 20 percent stated that they were not sufficiently informed about cyber dangers or were not informed at all. As the size of the company increases, knowledge about Caber security also increases.
