The conditions at Ems-Chemie, which SonntagsBlick made public two weeks ago, are not at all honorable for the management. That’s why CEO Magdalena Martullo-Blocher (54) tried to inform staff last week. In a message declared “confidential,” he harshly criticized the reports as “a campaign that tarnishes the image”: “The publication is politically motivated,” the SVP National Assembly Member claimed.
SonntagsBlick received “internal and confidential documents” from Ems-Chemie – “after persistent investigations”. “But these are often already outdated,” says Martullo-Blocher. “Some” were also published “inconsistently with quotes.”
However, the Ems boss later confirmed key points in the SonntagsBlick reports: for example, the lack of extension of employment contracts of temporary and fixed-term employees. Or assignment of individual employees to other companies or activities.
“These have already been remedied,” Martullo-Blocher writes of “technical deficiencies” noted in an internal audit in 2022. The entrepreneur notes that matters of order and security are “taken very seriously” and that smaller incidents are also recorded. “We were able to achieve significant progress in 2023, but we have not yet achieved our goals.” The letter also emphasizes that Ems is very well positioned in the market. “Production volumes at the Domat/Ems facility are also planned to increase in 2024.”
Finally, staff are asked to contact their supervisor if they have any further questions. “We would also like to remind you in general about your legal confidentiality obligations towards third parties.”
This appears to be an attempt to thwart insider reporting.
