class=”sc-29f61514-0 fwWrRV”>

Roche headquarters in Basel. The pharmaceutical company will invest a further 1.2 billion francs in the facility by 2030.

The funds will be transferred to another research and development building, the renewal of synthetic chemical molecule production and the Institute of Human Biology building, Roche announced Friday. This investment is a commitment and an important step for the future of the Basel location. According to the statement, Roche has invested 3 billion francs in the area on Grenzacherstrasse since 2014.

Half a billion dollars will flow into the 13-storey, 72-meter-high research and development building. The building will have laboratory workstations for approximately 450 researchers.

More than 570 million francs will be spent on the new production building 51, which is planned to replace the existing facility infrastructure. Expansion of the existing building number 50 is also planned.

Roche spends about $100 million on its Institute for Human Biology, which employs up to 250 researchers. According to the statement, the existing building number 92 will be completely rebuilt. The planned buildings will be constructed as part of the current development plan for the northern region and are expected to be completed by 2030.

The Basel government announced on Friday that it had approved the development plan for the southern region. Among other things, Roche plans to demolish the old office and laboratory buildings there to make way for a park.

There will also be room in the development plan for a third high-rise building (Building 3) with a maximum height of 221 meters. But the third tall building is just a vision, Roche has no concrete plans yet.

Advert

The government is asking the Grand Council to reject 45 objections to the development plan. Basel Homeland Security had objected, among other things, and criticized the loss of two buildings worthy of protection in the area. The manager also explained that the balance of interests is in favor of the development of the area and against the preservation of the two buildings.
