Euroairport Basel-Mulhouse will renew its main airstrip in spring 2026. In the announcement made by the airport on Thursday, it was announced that the runway will be completely closed for about a month for security reasons. This means that many destinations will likely be unreachable by plane during the construction period.
97 percent of air traffic is carried out on the main runway, which has a total length of 3,900 meters. However, at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency, a spokesman said Euroairport was exploring the possibility of keeping the secondary runway operational. This is shorter at 1715 meters and is aimed at small aircraft. Depending on wind conditions, it can also be used on larger machines.
As Euroairport writes, the main runway, dating from 1953, is subject to a multi-year maintenance program to ensure operational safety. The northern part of the slope was renovated in 2011. Now comes the middle section.
The statement continued by stating that the archaeological investigation in the devastated area will be carried out at the end of November this year. (pbe/SDA)
