Decline in Swiss guests: KOF expects winter tourism to be solid

The expected growth in the previous season is mainly based on the hope that there will not be as little snow in March 2024 as last year, as KOF announced on Thursday. Again more European guests are expected, especially from Germany, the most important country of origin.

These were increasingly delayed last winter due to clouded consumer confidence. According to forecasts, European guests are likely to return to pre-pandemic levels.

A positive impact is also expected from Chinese guests. These remain well behind pre-Corona levels. However, an increase is still expected based on a very low comparison base compared to the previous season.

Positive movements are also expected from other Asian markets. First of all, guests from the United States are likely to show strong growth rates during the winter season as well as during the summer months.

Meanwhile, a slight decrease in the number of Swiss guests is expected after last year’s high figures. In the wake of the pandemic, the Swiss are becoming increasingly distant. However, in historical comparison, the level of Swiss guests remains quite high, as during the pandemic years.

As a result, Swiss tourism is expected to reach 106 percent of the level in the last winter of 2018/19, before the pandemic, in terms of overnight stays. Last year, with 104 percent, this rate was exceeded again for the first time since the beginning of the epidemic. (SDA)
