Probably very few passengers were satisfied with this adventure: an Easyjet flight that took off from Nice on Tuesday evening had to take off again shortly before the runway at Geneva airport due to strong crosswinds. But this was only the beginning of the journey: the Airbus A320 was diverted to Basel, but due to bad weather it could not land there either!

At this point at the latest, the landing tension also turned into a fuel race. After the failed landing attempt in Basel, the crew contacted air traffic control in Zurich: There was still kerosene in the tank for only 18 minutes of flight! Luckily, 13 minutes later was enough to reach the tarmac at Zurich airport in good order. The flight took more than two hours instead of 45 minutes and eventually landed 230 kilometers away from its original destination.

According to Easyjet, everything within regulated processes

Easyjet airline confirmed the incident to Blick. The company said, “A number of unfortunate events occurred” upon request. But the low fuel gauge was never a cause for concern. “The pilots had several landing options at any time.” Double routing was unusual, but as the airline continued, it always occurred within regulated procedures. For this purpose, priority was given to the Zurich flight.

After landing in Zurich, Easyjet arranged transportation to Geneva and compensated the passengers for this. “The safety and well-being of our customers and crew is Easyjet’s top priority,” the airline said. “Although this incident was out of our control, we would like to apologize to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”
