Tesla opened its factory in Grünheide last year. According to the company’s latest information, around 11,000 people work here. The target of 500,000 cars per year has not yet been achieved, but there are already plans to expand the factory to an annual capacity of one million cars.

The state of Brandenburg is still reviewing the environmental law application for the first part of the expansion. Environmental groups and residents have concerns that part of the site is in a water conservation area.

Musk also announced that his employees will be paid higher wages during his visit to Grünheide. Wages, which increased by 6 percent last year, are expected to increase by 4 percent this year. Annual salaries of production employees will also be increased by 2,500 euros from February 2024.

IG Metall welcomed the planned wage increase. According to the information obtained, the salary at Tesla remains well below the usual level in the automotive industry in Germany.
