Wet spring, hot summer: 30 percent fewer potatoes expected

class=”sc-29f61514-0 dXbCZE”>

Major shortages are expected, especially in processed potatoes (as in chips here). (archive image)

It’s still hard to predict returns right now. Ruedi Fischer, President of the Swiss Potato Producers Association (VSKP), said in a statement to the Keystone-SDA news agency that the final figures will not be available until the beginning of December. Thus confirming a report from the Swiss Agricultural Information Center (LID).

But Fischer said it was foreseeable that there would be “above-average shortages like we’ve never experienced before.” The main reason for the decline in harvest was weather conditions; The spring was very wet and the summer was very hot at the time of planting. Added to this was the pest infestation. (SDA)
