Anyone boarding a flight from Zurich on Monday afternoon had to expect a waiting period. No plane was allowed to take off for two hours. At Blick’s request, Zurich Airport approved the departure ban. “This is due to a technical issue with Skyguide,” a spokesperson said. However, the planes were still able to land.
The problem was resolved around 16.30 in the afternoon. “Planes can take off again,” Skyguide’s media director Prisca Huguenin tells Blick. Air traffic control encountered a corporate network issue that prevented flight schedules from being displayed.
Meanwhile, after the disruption, the first flight to Vienna took off an hour late. However, there are still waiting periods.
According to Zurich Airport, at least 60 flights were delayed between 20 and 100 minutes, affecting approximately 6,600 passengers. When asked, Swiss wrote: “Swiss also experienced numerous delays due to IT failure.” Lufthansa’s subsidiary is seeking solutions, for example in the form of rebooking, for affected passengers who may miss a connecting flight. “These passengers also receive care services.” And also: “We are doing everything we can to keep possible impacts and inconveniences as low as possible.”
At least: No flights needed to be cancelled. (jwg/uro)
