The traditional Aargau company Hero will definitely close its jam factory in Lenzburg AG. Hero announced the plans in September, which led to a consultation process with employees.
The Lenzburg plant is planned to be closed by the end of 2024. Suggestions submitted by employees as part of the consultation process did not result in any viable alternatives, according to a statement Monday.
According to Hero, 48 employees are currently affected by the closure; In mid-September, 55 people were still affected. It is said that those affected should be supported by a “generous” social plan.
Hero is saddened by the closure but feels compelled to do so to ensure the company’s “long-term competitiveness”. The facility, which opened in 2011, could not reach sufficient capacity despite all efforts. What has recently made the situation worse is that jam consumption continues to decline in Switzerland.
Hero also underlines that even after the closure in Lenzburg, more than half of all products sold in Switzerland will be produced in the Swiss/Liechtenstein customs territory. In addition, the group’s headquarters, with a total of 170 employees, will remain in the Lenzburg location. (SDA)
