Renovation completed – Shop Ville is expanding: these companies are moving to the south wing of Zurich train station

After five years, SBB will celebrate the reopening of its extensively renovated Wanner building on Monday. The renovation of the more than 150-year-old building cost 175 million francs.

New features include the construction of the arcade’s basement and attic. In close consultation with the monuments conservation department, SBB also uncovered and restored much of the old building structure. There were always surprises. “The biggest thing came when we removed the thirteen layers of paint from the columns and revealed the marble underneath,” says SBB Real Estate Manager Beatrice Bichsel (41).

Commercial space with hundreds of employees

When the south wing opens, passers-by can look forward to a wide variety of restaurants: Brasserie Süd will open in the former Da Capo and Visilab area in December. Burger restaurant The Counter (December), South American cuisine Yard Bird (January) and Action Burger are also moving to the south wing. Negotiations are also ongoing for another restaurant space. Confiserie Sprüngli will open to customers in the next few days.

In the non-food sector, Amavita train station pharmacy will reopen its doors on November 3. The company has had to operate the pharmacy in a temporary environment in recent years. As Switzerland’s largest pharmacy by area, with more than 100 employees, operators now expect a significant increase in sales again.

On the same day, Permanence with 60 employees, including 20 doctors, and Zahnzentrum.ch with 11 employees also start operations on the expanded third floor.

Starting in January, the Soeder natural care store and kiosk will be added. From February, SBB will provide advice to customers in the travel centre. Negotiations with potential tenants for the office space are currently ongoing.
