Zurich Airport’s Facebook profile named “Zürich Airport” looks professional at first glance. But this probably comes from smart programmers in India, not the communications department at Kloten. But you only notice this when you look closely.

Especially when you read the last post. Because it sounds appealing: “Super action. We have lost luggage that no one has reported for a long time. Now you have a unique opportunity to purchase these products at a special price. “Hurry, quantity is limited!” in almost perfect German. he is writing.

And also: “We are urgently emptying the airport warehouse and selling more than 1000 suitcases of lost luggage! Clothes, shoes, bags; You can buy all of these at incredible discounts. Hurry while they’re still available!”

«Click the button to order»

Unfortunately, there is no place to store lost luggage at the airport. That’s why the suitcases are sold for only CHF 1.95!” Online only. Then the internet scammers request: “To order, click on the button on the ad and go to the website.” This should be avoided at all costs. When asked at the airport they said “We do not sell abandoned suitcases”.

Then follow various photos of the opened suitcases. With testimonials from so-called happy customers: “When I saw the ad I thought 1.95CHF, why not try it? I was 100% satisfied. The brand new Apple Watch. I recommend everyone to try it,” writes László from the Hungarian town of Siófok.

Maxine from Brussels seems even luckier. «My suitcase was full of quality products from my favorite brands, Calvin Klein, Zara, Levis and other brands. “It was a real fashion hypermarket in a suitcase!” he says happily. Your profile may have been hacked.

The airport has been aware of the cases for two weeks. “We are reporting these fake profiles immediately so that they can be blocked as soon as possible. Last week we published a Facebook story and an information post to make our community aware that this is a fake profile,” airport spokesperson Elena Stern tells Blick.

“It also helps us if the profile is reported by as many people as possible. Another fake account was successfully blocked last week,” he says. Travelers are advised to be wary of such offers. “And be suspicious when, for example, a false phone number is given on the Facebook profile. Or a Gmail address .”

So you can immediately see if something is wrong. “As Flughafen Zürich AG, we only communicate through our official social media channels,” says Stern. “We do not know what the perpetrators intended with this action.”
