This brings the market shares of the two largest providers to 19.7 and 17.7 percent. According to IDC calculations, there was still a good 4 percent gap between Samsung and Apple in the second quarter.
The decisive factor in the developments in the last quarter was that Samsung’s device sales decreased by 8.4 percent compared to the previous year, while Apple sold 2.5 percent more iPhones.
It has been common practice for years for Apple to take the top spot in the market during the Christmas quarter after introducing new iPhone models. But throughout the year Samsung is traditionally ahead. It is unusual for the gap to narrow so significantly in the third quarter.
In third place, Chinese provider Xiaomi sold 2.4 percent more smartphones in the last quarter and had a 13.7 percent market share, according to IDC calculations.
The new year has been transmission, which has been mainly operating in Africa in Africa and sells 35 percent more smartphones than the previous year in the last quarter. With 26 million devices sales and 8.6 percent market share, Transsion approached its well -known opponent Oppo.
