New York is by far the city with the wealthiest residents.

Zurich and Geneva are cosmopolitan cities! Switzerland, which has been open to us for a long time, now appears to be officially confirmed. Because Zurich and Geneva are among the top 20 cities where most of the super-rich live. And as it is known, they like to settle in cosmopolitan cities.

Consulting firm Henley & Partners published a survey in June 2023 showing where the rich live. Only people with “investable assets” of $100 million or more are considered. These include publicly traded company investments, cash, and liquid assets such as residential properties. There are only 30,770 people in this elite circle worldwide.

It is not surprising that metropolises in North America, Europe and Asia are particularly well represented. Right in the middle: little Switzerland. The research takes into account not only the super rich in city centers but also in the surrounding areas. For Zurich and Geneva, this means that entire cantons are included in the evaluation, not just their respective cities.

However, Geneva and Zurich fell in the rankings: in last year’s evaluation, Geneva was in 9th place, Zurich in 13th place, but Dubai, among others, was also on the rise. It’s no coincidence: According to Henley research, wealth growth in the coming years will continue to come primarily from Asian and Arab regions. Cities such as Riyadh, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Guangzhou and Doha will soon rank significantly higher.
